Remember way, way back, back to the very beginning of my blog. One of the very first products that I reviewed was the Barry M Lip Paint in the shade Genie. For those who don't know, Genie is an unusual colour changing lipstick. While it looks green in the tube, it turns a shade of pink on the lips that is supposed to be different for each person. It is supposed to be a result of the lipstick reacting to the alkaline level of the lips.
I truly loved Genie, even now I will reach for it when I want a super bright pink lip. Excitingly for me, I found out that Barry M has brought out an another colour changing lipstick; a sequel to Genie. Meet Neptune. Isn't it beautiful?
In the tube, Neptune looks like a medium blue colour that seems pretty scary. Fortunately, it does not stay that way. Neptune works the exact same to Genie. The lipstick reacts with the alkaline of the lips to form a unique shade for each individual. Neptune turns from a blue into the most beautiful purply lilac shade. On me, the colour leans more towards a lilac shade, which I love!
The colour is not the only highlight of this lipstick; the texture is also very nice. The consistency is less like a lipstick and more of a balm. My lips feel so moisturised after applying it, and it lasts for a fair while. However, even after the moisturisation has gone there is always a subtle purple tint to the lips which can be topped up with some clear balm.
I feel that some people might find this a bit too tacky, or gimmicky, for them. But, this is right up my alley. I think that the colour changing aspect just gives the lipstick a little edge, something to make it a bit different from every other lipstick out there. The intense punch of colour, paired with the balmy texture, means that this lipstick is perfect for Spring and Summer.
Have you ever tried either of the Barry M Colour Change Lip Paints? Or maybe the ones from Lipstick Queen?
