Finally, I have given in and purchased myself a monthly-subscription to Birchbox. I have wanted to get another beauty box since I purchased the Cohorted Black Beauty Box. Since, purchasing the subscription, I have been waiting with eager anticipation. And it finally came last week!
I really enjoyed that I was notificated when the box was shipped out. They supplied me with a tracking code so that I'd know exactly when my box was coming. Unfortunately, I was out when my box came. The delivery man saw fit to leave it on the balcony of my ground floor flat, where anyone could pick it up. That, I was not so impressed with.
One of the reasons behind picking Birchbox, out of the vast number of other beauty boxes, is the changing theming of their boxes. The box I received was white with a yellow geometric print. It had a very fresh, happy vibe to it. The theme this month seems to be all about celebrating the new year, and making the most of a fresh new start. The check list of things to try in the new year was quite a nice extra touch.
Contained within my box was three full sized and two sample products. I received a full sized Lord & Berry Conceal-It Crayon, a full sized Soigné Nail Laquer, and a full sized Merci Handy Hand Cream. For the sample sized products, there was a Kebelo Clarifying Shampoo and a Vita Coco Coconut Oil. So far, I have tried everything apart from the Kebelo Clarifying Shampoo. I found that despite the Lord & Berry Conceal-It Crayon being in Ivory, it is still a tad bit too yellow toned for my skin. The type of concealer that it is, means that this is best suited for spot concealing. It's got too much of a firm texture to blend out well under the eyes.
The shade of Soigné Nail Laquer that I received was Limonade Rose. The shade is very disappointing. I used four layers of the polish, and still found it to appear quite streaky. I'm willing to play around and make it work because the colour is really pretty. The Merci Handy Hand Cream I received was in the New Wave variety. The cream has a faint smell of sweet candy, but the main strong smell reminds me of some type of deodorant. Not the greatest smell, but not completely off putting. The cream also left my hands feeling slightly oily afterwards, and I only used a very small amount. I did however like the size of the tube, it makes it very handbag friendly. My favourite thing has to be the Vita Coco Coconut Oil. I always wrote coconut oil off and being very overhyped, but how I was wrong. The smell is heavenly, and I love how it melts on my fingertips. I'll be experimenting with all the different ways that it lists the oil can be used.
Overall, I was quite disappointed with the box. The only things that interested me was the coconut oil and the shampoo. I think I'll stick it out with Birchbox for another month, and see what February brings. The sneak peek for the February box is a Spectrum Brush, which I'm quite interested in. If I still feel the same way, then I might switch it up and try out Glossybox.
What do you think of beauty subscription boxes? Especially Birchbox?
